Nhl On the Fly / Habs Report

As I predicted in my earlier post, Montreal has been eliminated. They’re probably soaking in the sun on a golf course somewhere. With 7 straight losses including the post season, Gainey has a lot to deal with on his plate. I mean 10 UFA’s, a couple of RFAs, and a team who doesn’t even have a base to build on. What is Gainey’s plan?

Hes becoming Lex Luthor to the Habs, more then Superman

He's becoming Lex Luthor to the Habs, more than Superman

With plenty of UFA’s out in the market, one could say the Habs can buy anything there hearts desire, but who would wanna play in a media, hardcore fan base place called Montreal. Briere didn’t want to play here and who could blame him. But with players making millions, maybe a kick in the rear is what they need to make them better and that’s what our jobs as fans are. Gainey, you are a horrible coach for putting Price in the line of fire and coming up with the excuse “I believe in him”, if 3 million people knew and did not believe in him; what makes you so special to decide that he is? He had an awful year and although it was only his second year in the NHL, fans want to give him more chances but its hard to do so when Gainey hangs him out to dry.

In the end of season press conference, Gainey mentioned in which I would say 98% of people missed and still believe Vincent Lecavlier is coming here. He spoke of the General Manager of the Tampa Bay Lightning and how he used the Canadians just so he could shop Lecavalier around to other teams to get better offers. That is absurd but it’s a technique that’s used in the NHL more often than you’d think. I know I use that knowledge in my hockey pool when I’m trading players just to get a better offer but the difference is I’m doing it in a ficticious team that will not count for anything.

Habs Rumors

The Kostisyn bros. could be on the trading block. Perhaps a new team would take them to build from their core. Another possibility is Halak could be traded as well and bringing up an experienced Goalie to train Price from “hitting the deck” to early….

In other news Toronto wants to pick up either the first or second pick in the NHL draft this year to land John Tavares. GM Brian Burke openly said that acquiring John Tavares WILL be done in one way or another. If something big were to happen, expect it to be Toronto this year at the draft.

Donald Brashear is gone for six games after a vicious hit on Blair Betts of the New York Rangers. That series is going wild finish I’d say expect a game 7 showdown. Expect retaliation and bloodshed.

And thats all for today hockey fans.  When the results are in for all playoff games and the next round is set this week, you’ll have a playoff update and review for the second round. Till then hockey fans, Lord Anish out.
