Pre-Game Rituals

It has happened to every single sports fan out there. You’re sitting down, getting ready for the big game to start with a couple of buddies, and everybody and everything has their “special” place. But sometimes it even starts before your friends even come over. Sometimes its the way you slept that one time your team won the the Stanley Cup or the Super Bowl, and your hoping it will happen all over again. Some fans even go on to wear the exact same clothes –dirty socks included– from that special day and God forbid anybody has thrown them out.
My pre-game rituals include putting on Montreal Canadiens jersey, have my own quiet time about an hour before game time and I absolutely have to yell at the players when they do something wrong. Call it what you want, but that’s just how it is. Sometimes the guys get really annoyed with me but they should be grateful that I wash my socks.
I’ve heard of rituals that consist of walking up the Saint-Joseph’s Oratory stairs and praying to the hockey Gods for a victory in the name of Jesus Price. Others include holding a beer the entire game and under no circumstances letting go. And then there’s are a small group of individuals who believe its all made-up and that none of these things ACTUALLY impact the outcome of the game. Others believe its luck or chance. I believe in making my own luck.
Never stop believing folks.
