Lord Anish’s Playoff Push For The Cup

With the west good and settled, only one Canadian team remains, one upset, one surprised goalie shocking everyone, and one that’s doing well even at his age. With that here we go with the:

Western Conference:

2)Detroit Red Wings VS 8)Anaheim Ducks: With the recent upset of the San Jose Sharks, it looks like Anaheim could be the Dallas Stars of last year. Anaheim did everything San Jose could not, Score early, out classed by a rookie goalie whose pulled one from out of nowhere, and stellar defense the way Micheal Komisarek SHOULD PLAY. The Detroit Red Wings were gonna win this one with Columbus but no one thought it would be this easy. No one knew Osgood would actually step up and steal 2 wins for the team.  With Hossa, Lidstrom, Rafalski and Datsuk stepping up, the Detroit Red Wings will go far in the playoffs… or will they? Forwards to Forwards Detroit has a slight advantage. Defense to Defense, Anaheim has a slight advantage. So it will be another battle of goalies. Hiller vs Osgood.

Who will win? Who cares this will be the match to watch

Prediction: Anaheim to win in 6 games! UPSET

3)Vancouver Canucks vs 4)Chicago Black Hawks: With Vancouver being a well rested team going up with the Chicago Black Hawks, one has to wonder how well Khabibulin will do against an already top notch goalie in Roberto Luongo.  Everything else is even. Vancouver has a slight advantage in defense and offense so expect games to be decided by goalies.

Prediction:Vancouver Canucks to win in 5 games !

Eastern Conference:

1)Boston Bruins vs 6)Carolina Hurricanes: No one believed that Carolina could pull this one off and move on to this round but I believed from the moment I saw how Carolina decimated every team they came across with the change in head coach. Cam Ward is a playoff goalie no doubt about it. Tim Thomas is going to have more to deal with this round the the Montreal Canadiens the previous round. Boston has a strong front 3 but is going to make some mistakes as they will play not like they did in regular season

Prediction: Carolina Hurricanes in 7! Upset of the tournament!!!

2)Washington Capitals vs 4)Pittsburgh Penguins:The match we as hockey fans been waiting for all playoff long. They had a chance to meet in the first round but no, this makes it more dramatic. Ovechkin vs

Crosby…Varmolov Vs Fleury..Semin vs Malkin….Green Vs Gonchar. Its going to be the series of the playoffs more then Anaheim Vs Detroit. May the best team win

Prediction: Pittsburgh Penguins in 6

Nhl On the Fly / Habs Report

As I predicted in my earlier post, Montreal has been eliminated. They’re probably soaking in the sun on a golf course somewhere. With 7 straight losses including the post season, Gainey has a lot to deal with on his plate. I mean 10 UFA’s, a couple of RFAs, and a team who doesn’t even have a base to build on. What is Gainey’s plan?

Hes becoming Lex Luthor to the Habs, more then Superman

He's becoming Lex Luthor to the Habs, more than Superman

With plenty of UFA’s out in the market, one could say the Habs can buy anything there hearts desire, but who would wanna play in a media, hardcore fan base place called Montreal. Briere didn’t want to play here and who could blame him. But with players making millions, maybe a kick in the rear is what they need to make them better and that’s what our jobs as fans are. Gainey, you are a horrible coach for putting Price in the line of fire and coming up with the excuse “I believe in him”, if 3 million people knew and did not believe in him; what makes you so special to decide that he is? He had an awful year and although it was only his second year in the NHL, fans want to give him more chances but its hard to do so when Gainey hangs him out to dry.

In the end of season press conference, Gainey mentioned in which I would say 98% of people missed and still believe Vincent Lecavlier is coming here. He spoke of the General Manager of the Tampa Bay Lightning and how he used the Canadians just so he could shop Lecavalier around to other teams to get better offers. That is absurd but it’s a technique that’s used in the NHL more often than you’d think. I know I use that knowledge in my hockey pool when I’m trading players just to get a better offer but the difference is I’m doing it in a ficticious team that will not count for anything.

Habs Rumors

The Kostisyn bros. could be on the trading block. Perhaps a new team would take them to build from their core. Another possibility is Halak could be traded as well and bringing up an experienced Goalie to train Price from “hitting the deck” to early….

In other news Toronto wants to pick up either the first or second pick in the NHL draft this year to land John Tavares. GM Brian Burke openly said that acquiring John Tavares WILL be done in one way or another. If something big were to happen, expect it to be Toronto this year at the draft.

Donald Brashear is gone for six games after a vicious hit on Blair Betts of the New York Rangers. That series is going wild finish I’d say expect a game 7 showdown. Expect retaliation and bloodshed.

And thats all for today hockey fans.  When the results are in for all playoff games and the next round is set this week, you’ll have a playoff update and review for the second round. Till then hockey fans, Lord Anish out.

Andrew Searles – Comedian with a cause

April 27, 2009 by Rick Di Corpo

Ever wonder what that strange sensation is when you feel your legs getting numb and your cheeks hurting? That’s comedian Andrew Searles taking control of your body through his telekinetic powers instructing you to destroy mankind.

Seriously it’s probably a tumor; you should have it checked out… On a related issue, you may be wondering who Andrew Searles is? You may have seen him perform at the 25th Just for Laughs Anniversary, his stints at Comedy Werks or heard his routines on XM radio. Andrew is a favorite at college campuses and regularly tours Montreal’s CEGEP’s and Universities, it was through his college tours that I first came across him more than 5 years ago. Andrew is one of Montreal’s brightest and fastest rising comedians and has already opened for world renowned comedians such as: Joey Elias, Sugar Sammy, Russell Peters, Al Lubel, and tons more.

Varying from life experiences, to growing up as an African-Canadian (his “Kill the Bwoy” is a must see), to celebrity impersonations; Andrew proves time and time again that keeping material fresh is key to success in the tough market of comedy. With the tons of comedians coming out of the woodwork, how can any comedian make it in such a tough industry? Here’s a few of questions Andrew answered for me:

Andrew’s technique and delivery has been developing for over 5 years ever since his friends dared him to go on stage at a John Abbott College talent show in 2002. I’ve had the honor of being at that gig and let me tell you, things have certainly improved since then.  His mannerisms (like the many impersonations) are now uniquely his instead of what was once a mixture of original and emulated technique.  I definitely get a sense of Eddie Murphy while watching and listening to Andrew but I don’t see it as being a bad thing because he’s growing as a comedian and he’s also turning what he’s learned into his own style, which is the important part.

To get a better idea of what guided and still directs Andrew to make people laugh the way he does I asked him a few questions:

searlesimage1What was your first turning point which made you want to become a comedian? How did you first start writing your material? Was it trial & error or did you modify jokes you’ve heard before?

I’d say the turning point began in early 2001 in my final years of Riverdale High School, and I’ve always loved doing Drama class. I did a Bill Cosby impersonation which the fellow students loved and begged me to do all the time. Few months passed by and a friend suggested I join the school play. It was a small one-lined role, but in between rehearsals, there was a bar set so I would get behind the bar and do impressions of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Eddie Murphy, and Keanu Reeves all being bartenders to help pass the time and entertain others while we weren’t doing anything. Just watching people laugh, the joy, and the pleasure I got from doing that definitely felt euphoric, and something I wanted to further pursue in.

Starting off writing was hard because I had no base or prior experience to start off with, so it required a lot of watching other comedians perform like Joey Elias, Russell Peters, Eddie Murphy, and analyzing why their telling the joke , how they delivered the joke, and more importantly, the punch-line. Then it was a matter of taking what I learned and applying it to my own experiences. Finding what I think to be funny, and then the process of writing, writing and more writing, until I had the setup, and the punch-line. Definitely required a lot of trail and error until I had the finished product; A great joke.

Where did you get your first big break? Were you scared, if so how did you deal with the pressure?

I was taking a summer class in 2002 with a buddy of mine, and on the last class for of the summer session, he made me do impressions in front of the class, which the students and the teacher loved. Since we would be starting John Abbott College together in the fall, he dared me to try it then stage. So Fall 2002 came, first semester of John Abbott and I performed for the first time on stage on October 1, 2002, opening for Ryan Wilner and Joey Elias. About 300-400 people in the crowd, and it was a success! People loved me and I guess I was an instant celebrity in the hallways of Abbott. I was pretty calm about performing in front of a crowd that size. Sizes of the crowd never really fazed me, just remembering and doing what I had to do is something im more worried about.

Time and time again we see comedians spring up, have an amazing boom and then fizzle down slowly because they are unable to come up with relevant and up to date routines. How hard do you work at coming up with new material, or is it something that comes naturally (ie. Talking to yourself in the car to work and BOOM, awesome joke)?

That’s pretty much the entertainment business. Everybody has their 15 minutes of fame. But to me, it’s a matter of what you that decides how fast (overnight success to a nobody) or slow (popular for a long time) those 15 minutes go by. You see it in the acting industry, music industry, and comedy industry is no acceptation. It’s only by being constant and staying true to who you are, not getting too caught up in the glitz & glamour when success happens. Reinventing yourself is a good way to ensure you don’t disappear into yesterday’s news forever. That way you’re always fresh and new each time.

New material is hard to develop but fun to play with when you have it. Sometimes I’ll notice something that I find funny, and I’ll be somewhere just repeating it to myself when suddenly it all becomes clear and *pop*, a new joke is born. It’s just waiting to get that *pop* in your head, that’s where it becomes a real mind job. Many times I’ll have the great premise, great setup but nothing for the punch-line. My joke on Viagra took me 4 years to get it the way it is now through years of rewrites and then one day it *popped* in my head, I finally had a punch-line that I was very satisfied with. But I’d definitely say repeating jokes to yourself and looking like a crazy guy in public is one way for a joke to suddenly be born.

searlesimage2

Coming up with material is one thing, but delivery is another. How did you learn to properly deliver a joke? Is it an ongoing learning process?

Definitely an ongoing process, no question. We all know the saying “It’s not what you say, it’s how you say it”, well that definitely defines comedy. A lot of it is a play on words. Emphasizing one word and deemphasizing another in the punch-line can definitely decide if you get a big laugh or not. Even intonation plays a huge role. Saying the punch-line in a happy tone as opposed to a low monotone, or vice versa can really decide if you get an applause or not. When you’re starting off as an amateur comedian, you will definitely go through a phase of figuring out what kind of delivery you should have for your material, but the more experienced you get, the more you’ll know right away of “I should say it this way, and not that way. And stress more on this word, etc”

How cutthroat is the comedy industry? As a new guy breaking in, did you have a hard time being taken legitimately? Are you taken legitimately now or do you still have to fight for air time?

I find Montreal is definitely not as cutthroat as other cities (from what I hear). I heard in other cities, comics will set on each other just to get stage time, and stab each other in the back (not literally, I hope) to get stage time. Hearing this really scares and very much distasteful for my liking. I’m very happy that I’m doing comedy in Montreal. I find here we’re friends on and off of stage. We help each other for shows. One comic invites me to do one show, the next time I invite him. We’re scratching each other’s back instead of sticking a knife in them. But you still need a little competition, keeps everybody on their toes.
New guys and even I at one time had to shine a bit extra harder just to show we actually have potential and not an “I only have 5 minutes of jokes” kind of image.

But once you’re in, you get a good amount of respect and stage time. Sometimes it feels like I’m fighting for stage time. But the clubs operate on a rotation, just so the audience doesn’t see the same comedians all the time. Which is clearly understandable, but sometimes you get that comedy itch to get on stage but you can’t scratch it because you’re on a rotation. It sucks but it’s got to be fair.

Do you have a manager? Any advice on how to pick a manager, what to expect from one and how to move on from a failing one?

Right now, no. But unless you’re a superstar like Sugar Sammy where you’re in constant demand, I’d say you definitely don’t need a manager (not yet anyways). But if you happen to find one that will get you a lot of gigs, why not. Go for it!

Tough crowds are killer and can ruin a novice comedian in an instant. How do you deal with the jerks in the crowd, hecklers, people walking out on you and the people not paying attention?

Luckily I’ve seen and dealt with very few hecklers in the crowd, so the thought never comes to mind when I’m about to hit the stage. But the only way to do it and deal with them (especially if you’re a novice) is to just keep going and completely ignore them. The second you go after them, you draw more attention to them and that’s what they want. It’s like a showdown at the O.K. Corral. You versus them. The audiences want to see who has the bigger gun.  So if take that approach, its best you have a quick joke that will burn them. Otherwise the show goes into a downward spiral. The heckler will talk and talk, the comic will feel horrible if not insulted, and the audience will get annoyed as the show is ruined by the heckler. But I’ve seen shows where the heckler goes after the comic who’s a pro, and wow, the comebacks that the comic throws out is just incredible. Destroys the heckler, wins back the crowd and the show goes on.

I’ve done shows where I’m on stage and people are eating, talking, walking about. Not really a great feeling. If they got the jokes, if they didn’t, it’s not your problem and certainly not your fault. In either of these cases, just ignore the obstacles and just focus on doing what you were hired to do.

searlesimage3When can we see Jerry Seinfeld opening up for Andrew Searles?

Hahaha. I spoke to Jerry today; he said he’ll open for me when I have a sitcom that can do 10 seasons on the air, Multiple Emmy and Golden Globe nominations and wins. And maybe then, he’ll try not to run me over with the 200 Porsches he has.

Lord Anish’s Party Life- Tabasco Delight

hot stuff commin through

hot stuff comin' through

My third time out was as wild as the first two but didn’t take place downtown.  Everyone knows about Fuzzie’s Laval, but did you know that there was once one in the West Island?  Well that’s where we chose to celebrate our last party for the Unbeaten Rugby Season.  We had more then 7 people attending which was about 80% of the team.  The night started in fun fashion of drinking and talking.  My best friend showed me this previously unheard of shot… it was called “Perry Fires”.  Now Perry Fires contain Tequila and Tabasco so being the idiot that I am I knew I would love the taste.  I had 1 with my buddies and then ordered 5 for my self and drank em straight (big mistake).  At the same time my coach was teaching the rest of the team about Strongman Competition. This is where you take a shot of tequila lemon and salt like normal and remix it.  You Sniff the salt, take the shot, and squeeze the lemon in your eye (no joke).

At this point I’m plastered and so I felt cockier than usual.  I bought another 5 Perry Fires and drank ‘em all one after the other.  At this point I was beyond plastered, dancing and falling all over the place.  Then my rugby coach decides to buy me yet another drink. Now if someone buys you a drink and the color of it is all red, usually you’d decline. But when under the influence, the red color draws you in.  Unfortunately also it goes down like ice cream into your stomach which doesn’t help things in the long run because I ended up drinking a ton more than I should have. It ended up being a shot of pure Tabasco.  I was on the street puking and ended up with a fully burnt stomach and diarrhea for a good 1 1/2 weeks.

It was fun and if I remember correctly I danced with my friends older sister.  She was a cutie.  On the way home in the taxi cab I felt like crap and stopped about 3-4 times to puke.  I felt like a dragon breathing fire out of my mouth each time.  Word of the wise;  don’t prove anything to anyone, stick to Vodka/7up.

NHL On The Fly

Hey hockey fans, it’s time for a little something we like to call: NHL on the Fly.  We have a lot in store so lets get right into it.  First off Congratulations goes out to Alexander Ovechkin and reaching another 50 goals in another season.  This years NHL Draft is in Montreal.  Tavares IS going to end up 1st round 1st pick.  The question is with this much power, should the Islanders shop around and get more out of this pick?  Or keep it and hope to add to this wonderful prospect.  There are plenty of rumors going around and here’s my take on some:  As much as it pains me to say it, Vincent Lecavlier will never be a Montreal Canadian.  Tampa Bay Lightning will keep him till June where his no trade clause kicks in.  Jason Spezza of the Ottawa Senators could be headed out of Ottawa as soon as the draft.
Potential suitors for this player is none other then the Los Angeles Kings who have a 12 million dollar in the cap to spend on relatively anything.  Another rumor is Daniel Briere could be gone from Philadelphia as soon as this summer.  The 7 million dollar man is on a team that has tremendous forwards but not enough D or a set goalie. to be honest Briere isn’t even worth $7 mil.  Problem is whose willing to take a cap hit like that for a 5′10 player.  Id rather go for Spezza on the Habs.  The Edmonton Oilers are looking into getting a few superstar forwards. Possibly Hossa and Gaborik, or Hossa and Spezza.  Look for something big to happen soon.  2 years back the Sharks were willing to do Saku Koivu straight up for Patrick Marleau.  I believe that would have been the best thing to happen to the Canadiens since we won our last Stanley Cup.

NEW UPDATE: The Toronto Maple Leafs are looking to acquire John Taveres in this years draft. More to come in the coming weeks but expect a Eric Lindros type move.

Players to look for:

John Tavares: He’s someone you should look into depending what kind of hockey pool or fantasy league your holding. His points are astounding but i believe he will not pull an Alexandre Daigle flop and even get more points then Steven Stamkos.  Very Offensive minded player with Crosby-like attributes mixed in with Vincent Lecavlier style. He should be someone that will be worth watching for years to come.

Sam Gagner: Had a slow start this year but finished with a blazing finish all because he got moved up to the first line with Alex Hemski.  Depending on who comes in, this 19 year old future phenom will be ones to look at for the future as his stock sky rockets.

Alexander Semin: In my opinion if healthy, 4rth best player in the NHL. I believe he can have a great season posting a la Ovechkin points. He was league leading 29 points in 15 games when Ovechkin had a slow start.  Expect great things from him in the future with Alex on the other wing and Backstrom in the middle.

Steven Stamkos: When I First saw him i could not believe he is worth 1st round 1st pick until i saw him with
Martin St Louis in the second half. Those 2 were the team right there with Ryan Malone on the other Wing.
Expect 60-80 points from him next year.

Players to avoid next year:

Vincent Lecavlier: Yes its hard to, but a recent decline in production means that this man could be on his way out.  Its unbelievable that Martin St. Louis had an amazing year with out Lecavlier, seems Lecav was dragging St.Louis down.

Olli Jokinen: From being his fan,to really not, Olli went from a crappy team to an amazing team and still can’t produce the same points as he did in Florida. In fact JP Dumont did better then him. This man will get about 40-50 points next year. Make sure he is picked somewhere in the last picks of your pool. There are 200 players better then him now.

And thats all for today hockey fans. Tune in next time as i give a Canadiens Report, till then…

Lord Anish’s Habs/Playoff Report

April 21, 2009 by Lord Anish

Greetings hockey fans. A lot to talk about so lets get right into it. Micheal Komisarek, is he worth 5 mill? Hell no. Sure he can block pucks and make hits, but I would rather put the extra 1.5 mill and acquire Jay Bowemeester this off season. He can put up 40 points and do the same things as Komisarek. Bob Gainey must go. To put a defense man as a forward position can work wonders sometime but not all the time. Choice of goalie last night was awful as the Habs are now down 3-0 in the series. Without picking up a player at the trading deadline sealed the fate of this great team. Next year 75% of the team are RFA’s and UFA’s DO NOT have a contract. Some players play better during there contract year and some don’t. We clearly saw what happened during the last games of the regular season and playoffs. More next week as the Habs will be playing golf soon.On to the playoffs.

If only the habs were this passionate.....

If only the Habs were this passionate.....

EASTERN CONFERENCE:

1)Boston vs 8)Montreal: Even without Milan Lucic the Boston Bruins are always 1 step ahead of the Montreal Canadiens. Down 3-0 can they repeat there feat against Boston when they came back from a 3-1 deficit? NO, not happening this year. No one realizes Tim Thomas 2.10 GAA is best in the NHL.

Currently: 3-0 Boston      Prediction: Boston 4-0

2)Washington vs 7)New York Rangers: NY took a 2-0 lead after a dismal start by Jose Theodore. But with Simeon Varmalov they closed down very well in the second game but unfortunately Henrik had all the answers to every Washington question. With Semin’s 2 goals last night Washington is back into the thick of things. Expect this to be the series of Round 1.

Currently: 2-1 Ny Rangers   Prediction: Washington 4-3

3)New Jersey Devils vs 6) Carolina Panthers:Another close one that’s decided by a goal lately. Its a battle of the goaltenders in this one as defense is really out the door. Brodeur vs Ward…Who will win? Only time will tell.

Currently: 2-1 New Jersey Devils  Prediction: Carolina 4-3

4)Pittsburgh Penguins vs 5)Philadelphia Flyers: Malkin is tearing up a storm in Philadelphia but the problem is he can’t be the only one who does. Philly has the firepower to beat any team. Fleury vs 2 questionable goalies? There’s your answer in the end.

Currently: 2-1 Pittsburgh   Prediction:Pittsburgh 4-2

WESTERN CONFERENCE:

1)San Jose Sharks vs 8)Anaheim Ducks:No one said Anaheim would be easy. A solid 2 lines with top notch defense and a goalie on fire is what can make a #1 team disappear anytime. Problem with San Jose and we see is that there on there 5th gear and expecting Nabakov to bail them out. With Nabbies 55+ starts, expect him to tire out and have San KO in the first round. Can they fight back? You bet they can. Will they? Who knows but them.

Currently: Anaheim 2-0 Prediction: Anaheim 4-2

2)Detroit Red Wings vs 7)Columbus Blue Jackets: Unfortunately Mason is not the Price of this year. When Chris Osgood is beating your team,it does not look good. Detroit weakness is the first round and Columbus failed to capitalize. Expect a slaughter in this one.

Currently: Detroit 2-0 Prediction: Detroit: 4-0

3)Vancouver Canucks vs 6)St.Louis Blues: Not much to say but this is over. Blues vs Luongo? Good Luck.

Currently:Vancouver 3-0 Prediction: Vancouver 4-0

4)Chicago Black Hawks vs Calgary Flames: There first game they did not mess up in,Calgary played a strong game from start to end. But Havalat is tearing things up and will not get injured this year. Maybe its a start of a new Ironman record. Or not, expect an injury next year. Flames need production all around if they can pull this one off

Currently:CBH 2-1  Prediction: CBH 4-3

Thats all for this week… tune in friday for the NHL on the fly for weekly news rumours and future fantasy picks.

Are you Sexting?

sextinglittleWell, as the great battle remains, I can say there is no difference between teenage girls’ behavior (flashing and what not) 20-30 years ago and their behavior today. But today, what pushes our girls into depressions and suicide because of the same behavior is the fact that shame will follow them, in some cases, forever.

Technology is not bad behavior’s friend anymore!

I’m not saying in anyway that it’s technology’s fault, I am saying that girls before used to flash their body at guys or do anything for guys to show them they are worthy of our attention even before today’s technology.

Of course, guys, as always shared the stories with their friends and those stories went around school claiming Stacy is a slut who flashed and does anything for a guy’s attention but the stories never got passed the “I heard Stacy is a slut” stage because two or three days later everybody would forget about it.

Today these young girls cannot count on time to make it all go away thanks to technology. When girls flash their bodies, there is always a digital camera, cell phone camera to record or take a picture of this event. Girls themselves take nude pictures of them with their cell phone and send them via text messages to guys.

“Where is technology involved in this problem which causes young girls today to fall into deep depressions and suicide?” might you say?

Well the picture or video goes from the original recipient’s phone to a friends phone who then sends it to another friend and so on. That picture or video will go around and around and around and that is where the girls become haunted by their own picture.

this is to show, girls will never change. Is it a good idea to behave in such way? I say it is not our decision to make but it is up to the girl determine whether or not this is a good idea. What is not taken into account is that boys will always be boys and will always want to share with their friends.

I hope this helps understand  the situation and hopefully it will open some eyes and girls will get more support and help from friends and family.

Lord Anish’s Party Life – School Trouble

wastedMy second journey downtown was not as adventurous as my first story but has its glamor.  Ill admit my life was always an adventure.  Mostly jokes though.  This one starts off like my first one.  I went to St.Thomas High School.  The year was 2001 and I was 17 years old.  I played on the rugby team (for those who knew or heard of us, we were undefeated).  We were the champions that defeated every team by how hard we trained.   Anyway it was during exams that we went out to celebrate our victory.  First I had to do like all children do at some point of their lives, lie to my parents to step outside.  But I told them a half truth and said were going downtown and were probably going to celebrate our season.  Our coach was going to come pick us up from school in a van and take us down to club and drink.  This happened on a Thursday. Who knew that that night would be the night I’d never forget for as long as I live, not because of the events that happened but of how much I drank.

So my mom dropped me off in front of the school.  I met up with my best friend and 5 others.  The rest of the team chickened out.  We see our coach pull up in a dark blue Dodge Caravan 1992 and we proceeded to cruise downtown in “style”.  Coach found parking and I suggested Club Crescent only because I knew we’d get in no problems whatsoever. We parked and went straight to the club.  Obviously no ID check but we got to the cashier and was wondering why anyone would pay 20$ to get in?

It was drink till you piss night.  Now here’s the concept, you pay 20 dollars at the door and 1$ in tip per drink, that’s what we call jackpot!  They slapped on a Pink bracelet and when you have to take a piss, there’s a bouncer at the bathroom door and outside with scissors to cut your bracelet. We were in heaven. Me and my best friend at the time had drinking competitions for how many can we drink. We lost count at the 20th drink each.  I’ve never been this rattled ever in my life (don’t forget this was my second time drinking!).  Boy did we celebrate!

It was 4am when I got home.  I kinda told my parents that I would be home by 12.  My mom was pissed but of course they didn’t know I almost drank myself into a coma so I had to walk straight into my room as fast as possible. I still remember our talk we had at 4 am like it was yesterday.

“Anish?”

“No mom not right now, you can talk to me when the sun is shining over th…”

She closed my door… I guess she could smell the booze :D
The next day i woke up 3 hrs later and felt for the first time what it is to feel hungover. I had an English essay exam and instead passed out in class. I was sent to the principal’s office where I got in trouble and received an out of class suspension.  Those were the days, no responsibilities and awesome memories.

Long live St.Thomas  :D

Pre-Game Rituals

April 17, 2009 by Michael Michaelidis

jesus-price1 It has happened to every single sports fan out there. You’re sitting down, getting ready for the big game to start with a couple of buddies, and everybody and everything has their “special” place. But sometimes it even starts before your friends even come over. Sometimes its the way you slept that one time your team won the the Stanley Cup or the Super Bowl, and your hoping it will happen all over again. Some fans even go on to wear the exact same clothes –dirty socks included– from that special day and God forbid anybody has thrown them out.

My pre-game rituals include putting on Montreal Canadiens jersey, have my own quiet time about an hour before game time and I absolutely have to yell at the players when they do something wrong. Call it what you want, but that’s just how it is. Sometimes the guys get really annoyed with me but they should be grateful that I wash my socks.

I’ve heard of rituals that consist of walking up the Saint-Joseph’s Oratory stairs and praying to the hockey Gods for a victory in the name of Jesus Price. Others include holding a beer the entire game and under no circumstances letting go. And then there’s are a small group of individuals who believe its all made-up and that none of these things ACTUALLY impact the outcome of the game. Others believe its luck or chance. I believe in making my own luck.

Never stop believing folks.

I scoured the interwebs and sorted through tons of pictures of topless dudes grinding up against each other to get to the meat and potatoes of Bal en Blanc 09.  The Chicks.  After sorting through this year’s batch of pictures I can split the attending women into 3 main categories:  Butch Bodybuilders, Lesbians, and Hookers.  Don’t forget the spray on tans!  I’m kind of disappointed in this year’s selection but meh, you guys be the judge.

Big Up to the awesome photography of the following sites:
